Grassroots organizations rebuilding Ukraine
Ukraine is already working on rebuilding destroyed areas. The National Institue of Architecture and Urbanism together with our Foundation, as part of the Warsaw initiative Dom Odbudowy Ukrainy, organized a meeting with three of our Ukranian partners. Together with Brave to Rebuild, Co-Haty (a project of the Metalab Foundation and Urban Curators) and District #1 Foundation we talked about practices, challenges and needs in the topic of reconstruction and repairing buildings ruined by Russian air raids.
What are Ukranian non-profits rebuilding and how? Which materials are possible to retrieve from the rubble? What materials are needed the most? Are Ukranian laws helpful or are they an obstacle? How can international partnerships help in the process, and when will grassroots initiatives change into a national effort to rebuild the country? What is the role of circular economy in the process?
→ The meeting took place on the 4th of August online on the NIAIU Youtube Channel.
→ The meeting was conducted by Petro Vladimirow, our team member in the OKNO project, and trasnlated by Polina Vietrova, a Ukranian architect living in Warsaw.
→ Dom Odbudowy Ukrainy: a series of Polish-Ukranian expert workshops. The meetings will result in creating a set of rules and recommendations that will prove useful for Ukranian local governments in the process of rebuilding, based on both Polish and Ukranian war experiences.
